Advisory Board Member Applicant Information
The purpose of the Chisholm Community Foundation Advisory Board
• To give back to the community & schools.
• To preserve the uniqueness of the Chisholm area by supporting community projects.
• To achieve superior education in the school system.
• To develop community support and commitment for the CCF through systematic communications program which both speaks and listens to the community in order to promote growth of the endowment fund.
• To enhance and improve the quality of life in the Chisholm and Balkan area.
• To receive by gift, grant, devise, bequest or otherwise, and from any private or public source, personal or real property, and to inform the St. Paul & MN Foundation, in accordance with the directions and intent of the donor(s) of such
property.
• To work with and in cooperation, either with other organizations or institutions, and either directly or by contributing to such other organizations or institutions, which it may deem necessary or proper in order to facilitate projects.
Board Member Participation & Community Involvement
Board members are expected to attend as many monthly board meetings as possible, the annual meeting & annual board retreat, either in person or virtually, be a part of CCF subcommittees by choice (attend meetings as scheduled Governance Committee, Grant Committee, Scholarship Committee), volunteer time during CCF fundraiser events (annual Golf Tournament, other events as scheduled). Board members are also expected to participate in soliciting efforts for Corporate Partners, donations from Investors both new and old, and event sponsors and prize donors. Board members may be asked to provide a minimal monetary donation to apply towards a CCF fundraising event.
Members of the Advisory Board may serve a term of two (2) or three (3) years. No person may serve more than six (6) years of consecutive service. After an absence from service on the Advisory Board of three (3) years a past member may reapply. Terms will be staggered.
New board members will officially start in a voting capacity on August 1st of the year appointed. The CCF does invite all new board members to participate in an onboarding period prior to their official starting date. This onboarding period is what fits best for the new board members ’schedule. Involvement during this onboarding period includes all activities the CCF board is involved in, such as monthly board meetings, e-mails/text message discussions, volunteer opportunities, fundraising events, etc.
Advisory Board Member Role Summary
Each Advisory Board Member has the responsibility to ensure that the CCF activities and transactions are first and foremost advancing the mission of the foundation. Board members also have an obligation to recognize and disclose personal conflicts of interest; furthermore, board members must make decisions that are in the best interest of the CCF, and not in the best interest of an individual board member or any other individual or for-profit entity.
Responsibilities of a CCF Advisory Board Member
• Ensure prudent use of all assets of the foundation.
• Ensure that the CCF obeys applicable laws and regulations, follows its own bylaws, and adheres to its stated
purpose/mission.
• Fundraise for the foundation.
• Act as an ambassador for the foundation and promote its mission within the community.
• Ensure commitment to a diverse board by identifying and recruiting other board members.
• Approve annual budget and business expenses.
• Serve on committees and participate in special assignments.
• Disclose any conflict of interest and subsequently abstain from voting.
• Attend and participate in monthly board meetings.
• Respect all who bring their voices and experiences to the board.
• Maintain confidentiality of all internal board matters.
• Approve grant requests and the allocation of operating funds.
