-CCF Hosts Second Annual Cinco de Mayo FestivalThe Chisholm Community Foundation held its second annual Cinco de Mayo Festival on April 26, 2008. Although the weather outside was frightening, approximately 100 people showed up to participate in the fun and festive activities at both Tom & Jerry’s and Valentini’s. The evening began at Tom & Jerry’s where one could listen and dance to the merriment of Forastero, the Mariachi band, participate in a salsa tasting contest, sample different Mexican beer, partake in a margarita (graciously made by Paul Ruper) and browse and bid on silent auction items. Then it was on to Valentini’s where it was like walking into a Mexican Cantina. The mariachi band continued to play and the jovial Mexican atmosphere added tremendously to the event. Valentini’s, once again, served an outstanding Mexican meal. A live auction was held where bids were flying for pheasant hunts and pontoon rides. The winners of our three contests were: best costume - Gina Zupancich; best salsa - Lynn Carlsen; best decorated salsa table - Tom Bobich. Tim Larson was the MC for the evening; Shawn Anderson was the auctioneer and also chaired the Cinco de Mayo committee. Everyone involved in the planning of this event did an excellent job! Again this year, Melissa Bland’s Spanish class greeted people and helped with the Spanish nametags and Heather Tomzcak’s Art class drew the beautiful murals that were hung at Valentini’s. A great big thank you goes out to all the students and teachers who volunteered. We very much appreciated your time and effort.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters annual banquet will be held sometime in October and the CCF will once again be serving beverages as a fundraiser at this event. -CCF Spring 2008 NewsletterClick here to read the Spring 2008 Newsletter. A record number of 152 golfers participated in this year's event. A buffet dinner was held at Valentini's after the outing and provided a welcome respite from the hot, humid conditions on the course. Two teams tied for 58, 14 under par, to win the tournament. Golf jackets were given to the Minnesota Industries team, which consisted of Matt Battaglia, Tony Marturano, Mike Swanger & Brian Warner, and the Ron Gornick team that included Ron, Karen & Laura Heck, Ron Santrach and Jason Summers. Approximately $18,500 was raised at this event. Thank you to all of our corporate sponsors, businesses & individuals who donated prizes and golfers and volunteers who participated in this event. We appreciate your support! The Minnesota Deer Hunters Annual Banquet was held on October 10, 2007 a the Hibbing Memorial Building. The CCF Board raises funds at this event by serving beverages. We raised approximately $2,800 that evening.
